Best Practices for Using Google Plus

Best Practices for Using Google Plus thumbnail

Sharing and interacting with your audience is especially important no matter what social media platform you use. By posting just one or two links on your profiles and then disappearing shows your customers – or anyone who finds your page in a search – that you have either gone out of business or just don’t care about interacting with the public.

Of course, business owners are also busy and the excuse may just be that you ran out of time that day between counting inventory, running the store and doing your bookkeeping. If this is the case for you, delegate the social media marketing to someone you trust, either an employee who knows your business and products well or a social media manager who has managed campaigns before.

Here are a few best practice tips to get the most from your Google Plus marketing efforts:

1.Share lots of photos. Not only should you upload photos to your business profile but share more photos during the course of each month.

If you own a restaurant that hosts weddings and events, shoot some photos of the decorated venue before the guests arrive. If you are a disc jockey, take some photos of your party-goers dancing. If your restaurant has a special menu for a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner, take photos of each dish and tempt your audience to make a reservation.

2. List important links to your website in the “About” tab. This is a great lead generation tool because you can direct people back to your main website where they can join your mailing list, request a price quote, or make a purchase. These links should lead to relevant information that your customers will find useful.

3. Create a community by cross promoting your Google Plus page. Don’t depend on organic search results to bring you web traffic. Instead, promote your Google Plus business page wherever you’re already getting traffic, such as on your website, blog sidebar, or other social media sites.

4. Encourage others to share your content. Don’t be shy. If you’re interacting with your circles on a regular basis, it’s perfectly OK to ask your followers to share your latest blog post. This is known as a ripple effect, where a few followers tell a few of their followers about your site and before you know it, you’ve got a much wider audience. Remember to place the +1 button icon on all your website content pages to encourage your visitors to share your content with others in their circles.

5. Send focused messages to your different circles. Your business vendors probably don’t want to hear about your nephew’s preschool graduation and your family probably doesn’t want to hear about your inventory problems. You can still interact with multiple groups of people on Google Plus by carefully selecting which circles see which messages. As you add new contacts, take the time to segment new names into the proper circles so they will see the messages and links that pertain to them specifically.

Google Plus can be a powerful tool for connecting to your target audience. Follow these simple steps to get the most value from your Google Plus interactions.
